Micro-CT scanning of Ranis bones in Leipzig
As part of the BACBONE project Geoff visited the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EVA, Leipzig, Germany) and the Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie (Weimar). As part of the visit Geoff was scanning bone remains from the MPI-EVA excavations at Ranis Ilsenhöhle Cave (Germany).
As part of the BACBONE project bone fragments identified both morphologically and through zooarchaeology by mass spectrometry (ZooMS) were scanned to look for evidence of bacterial bioerosion and investigate different site formation histories. Hope to have some results to share in 2023.
